Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) For Anxiety in BC
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on building a healthier relationship with your thoughts and emotions rather than trying to control, avoid, or eliminate difficult experiences. Together, we can explore what matters most to you, develop greater flexibility in how you respond to challenges, and learn to make space for difficult emotions without allowing them to dictate your choices.
The goal is to help you move toward a life that feels meaningful and aligned with your values, even when difficult thoughts or feelings are present.
Learning to accept what is, rather than fight it, is the first step to real change.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can help you respond to anxiety with more flexibility and compassion. Rather than trying to eliminate anxious thoughts or feelings, ACT focuses on learning how to make space for discomfort while reducing the struggle with anxiety.
You’ll develop skills to step back from unhelpful thoughts, stay grounded in the present moment, and take meaningful action based on your values—even when anxiety is present.
Core ACT Presmises:
Acceptance - making room for difficult thoughts and feelings rather than constantly fighting them
Cognitive defusion - learning to relate differently to thoughts rather than treating them like facts
Being present - developing awareness of what’s happening right now
Self-as-context- developing a broader perspective on one’s experiences and sense of self
Values - identifying what matters deeply to you
Committed action - taking meaningful steps guided by those values
